DHAKA, Dec 16, 2014 (BSS)- Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at the portrait of the great leader in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi here this morning on the occasion of the 44th Victory Day.
She stood in solemn silence there for some time as a mark of respect to the memory of Bangabandhu, the architect of independence.
Flanked with senior leaders of the party, Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Bangladesh Awami League, placed another wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation as the party chief.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, AL Advisory Council Member Suranjit Sengupta, Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engineer Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, AL Joint Secretaries Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif and Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, among others, were present.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister released a 10-Taka commemorative postage stamp and a 10-Taka first day cover marking the 44th Victory Day today.
She released the stamp and first day cover at her official Ganobhaban residence here this morning. A special cancelor was used on the occasion.
She also released a 5-Taka data card on the occasion of the 44th Victory Day.
PM's Principal Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikdar, Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri and Director General of Bangladesh Postal Directorate Nayeb Delwar Hossain were present, among others.
