Police Chief Rod Knecht emphasized on the relationship of ethno-cultural communities in Edmonton. He was speaking as a keynote speaker of the meeting organized by the Canadian Ethnic Media Association (CEMA) that co-sponsored by St. John's Institute on Wednesday, May 14. Editors of ethnic media, representatives, writers, reporters from print, television, radio and social were present. Among the guests were Stan Papulkas, Program Director of OMNI Television, Roman Brytan, Program Director at 101.7 World FM and Host of the station's daily Ukrainian program, and Delwar Jahid, President of Bangladesh Press Club of Alberta and Bangladesh Heritage Society of Alberta were also present.

Address of welcome was given by Sorin Mihailovici, Community Liaison for OMNI Television and City TV. Sorin explain the role of CEMA  and introduced the representatives.

Police Chief Rod Knecht explained the philosophy that combines traditional aspects of law enforcement with prevention measures, problem-solving, community engagement, and community partnerships and his experience of combating crime in the society.

In response to the questions from Samajkantha Editor Delwar Jahid, the Police Chief agrees that an approach needed to justice focuses on the needs of the victims and the offenders, as well as the involved community, instead of satisfying abstract legal principles or only punishing the offender. He requests the engagement of community leaders to consider community planning and safety; crime prevention and safety in indigenous communities; and the design development, implementation and evaluation of crime prevention programs in cooperating the police department.
