RANGPUR, Feb 14, 2014 (BSS)- The pro-farmer policy of the government has helped the nation in achieving laudable success in the agriculture sector to increase food production despite various adverse situations including climate change impacts.

Agriculture experts said this at a discussion organised here on Thursday afternoon by Rangpur unit of the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) to observe the Krishibid Day-2014 through various programmes including colourful rally, discussion etc.

President of Rangpur district unit of KIB and Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Feroz Ahmed presided over the discussion at the conference room of the Seed Certification Agency (SCA) office in the city.

A large number of the agriculturists of different government and non-government departments, organisations, institutes and agencies participated in the discussion.

General Secretary of Rangpur unit of KIB and Rangpur Regional Director of Agriculture Information Service Abu Sayem delivered the welcome speech narrating the laudable role and contributions of the agriculturists in developing the agriculture sector.

Senior Agriculturists including Ali Azam, Shameem Ashraf and Ahsan Habib also addressed the discussion meeting.

Earlier, the agriculturists brought out a colourful rally from Katchari Bazaar zero point to Paira Chattar premises in the city before gathering at the SCA office to attend the discussion meeting.

The agriculturists recalled contribution of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for establishing proper recognition and dignity of the agriculturists through raising their status to class one officers.

They expressed commitments for increasing agri-productions through engaging all-out efforts, endevours and talents to make the country completely self-reliant on crop output for ensuring its food security under changing climatic conditions.

The good will of the present government led by Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina has been inspiring the agriculturists in contributing their maximum for achieving sustainable food security through increasing agriculture production, they said.
