DHAKA, Aug 15, 2015 (BSS) - Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique today said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was complete human being as he possessed all well qualities mentioned in the dictionary.

"The honest, liberal and bold leader never feared of death or going to prison or any repression when he fought for development of the fortune of general people. He stayed in the residence in the dark night of March 25, 1971. He was firm even before the bullets of killers," he said.

"Bangabandhu performed politics with aristocracy in his entire life and he embraced the martyrdom amid this aristocracy," the vice-chancellor told a discussion marking the National Mourning Day and 40th martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu at Teacher-Student Centre on the university campus.

Professor Arefin said the then German Chancellor characterised the Bangalees as nation of traitors after the assassination of Bangabandhu.

He urged all to come forward to get relief from the stigma of traitorous nation and make an example as a grateful one. Paying rich tributes to the memories of Bangabandhu, Professor Arefin said Bangabandhu was supposed to come to Dhaka University on August 15, 1975.

"He wanted to confer a special dignity to the university. But he could not come to the university as he was assassinated in the wee hours on that day," he added.

Marking the day, the university authorities chalked out elaborate programmes which included keeping the national flag at half-mast and hoisting black flags at all buildings and dormitories, paying homage at the portrait of Bangabandhu at 'Bangabandhu Smriti Jadughar', discussion, screening documentaries and children-juvenile drawing competition.

After the discussion, a documentary styled 'Aradhya Bangabandhu' was screened. Later, he formally set up a portrait of Bangabandhu at the Dhaka University Journalists' Association (DUJA) office at the TSC.

Earlier, an art competition for the children-juvenile titled 'Bangabandhu O Bangladesh' was held at the TSC cafeteria.

Besides, doa mahphil was offered at mosques of different dormitories including central mosque after Zohr prayers and special prayer was offered at different Upashanalay on the campus.

Association of National Martyr Intellectuals Family and Dhaka University Shaheed Paribar Samity of DU organised different programmes at its temporary office on the university campus.
